Algae and rust have a way of creeping up on stone surfaces almost without you noticing. One season it looks fine, the next it's covered in green buildup and dark staining that makes the whole front of your property look neglected. That's exactly what we were dealing with here in Winter Park.

These ornamental stone columns had a heavy coat of algae growth across the top cap and down the sides, plus rust staining scattered throughout the surface. Algae is slippery, it traps moisture, and it accelerates the breakdown of masonry over time. Rust stains are a different problem - they're not just dirt, they're mineral deposits that bond to the surface and won't budge with a standard rinse.

We worked through both issues. The algae responded well to our soft wash process, which breaks down organic growth at the root rather than just blasting the surface. The rust staining required targeted treatment using the right chemistry for masonry - applied carefully to lift the deposits without damaging the stone underneath.

What you end up with is a surface that actually looks like stone again. Clean, light-colored masonry reads completely differently than the same surface buried under a year's worth of biological buildup. It changes the entire feel of the entryway. That's the kind of difference that's hard to unsee once you notice it.

Stone columns, pillars, and decorative masonry like this are common throughout Winter Park - and they're often the most overlooked surfaces when it comes to routine exterior cleaning. If yours are starting to show that same greenish cast or rust spotting, it's worth getting them looked at before the buildup has more time to set in.
